Both the Armed Police Special Police and the Public Security Special Police are very common and can be abbreviated as SWAT, especially in various train stations and airports where their presence is present. Many people know that special police generally refer to public security special police, but special forces or special operations units of the People's Armed Police are sometimes referred to as "special police". However, many people are unaware of the difference between armed police and special police, but it should be noted that the most important difference between the two is their identity.
The first difference is the difference in identity. The People's Armed Police, like the military, are a national armed force led by the Military Commission. Those who serve in the People's Armed Police Force are active duty soldiers and are subject to military management in peacetime. Public security special police is a type of police within the public security system, including traditional SWAT, riot police, armed patrols, and almost all mobile police forces in other public security systems. Public security personnel are all national civil servants, and public security special police have undergone quasi military management.
The second difference is that the sources are different. Armed police officers are generally recruited during their enlistment period, or enrolled in military academies or special recruits. Public security personnel are generally recruited directly from police academies, or through police recruitment exams, as well as from retired military personnel.
The third difference is that the tasks are different. The People's Armed Police mainly undertake tasks such as duty, conflict resolution, counter-terrorism, maritime rights and law enforcement, emergency rescue, and defense operations. The People's Armed Police Special Service mainly deals with serious violent crimes and terrorist activities such as hijacking, such as China's Falcon Assault Team (SPC) and Snow Leopard Assault Team. The special police officers of public security mainly provide military support to local public security organs, and are responsible for tasks such as armed patrols, suppressing riots, and maintaining public order.
The fourth difference is the difference in clothing. We all know that armed police officers are usually fascinated by camouflage uniforms, but special police officers usually wear black combat uniforms and shoulder badges. Armed police officers use a rank similar to military rank, while special police officers use the rank of public security.
